Police Honour Odiase, Composer Of National Anthem

The event took place Friday at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos, western Nigeria. During the solemn ceremony, the Inspector General of Police, Muhammed Abubakar, said the contributions of Odiase would remain as an enduring legacy in Nigeria. Abubakar spoke through the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Mamman Tsafe. A representative of Odiase’s family, Dr. Cyril Dokpesi, commended the Nigerian Police Force for honouring the late icon. He also frowned at the absence of a representative of Federal Government at the ceremony. Odiase, a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police died at the age of 79. He was born on 25 August,1934 to the late Mr. Yusuf Odiase and Mrs. Oreh Odiase of Sobe in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, southern Nigeria. Odiase had his primary education at St Thomas Moore’s School,Sobe and Sacred Heart Catholic School, Warri in the then Mid-Western Region between 1942 to 1948.
