Dangote, Elumelu jostle for 10 NIPP power plants

President of Dangote Group of Companies, Aliko Dangote and the Chairman of Transcorp Hilton Hotel Plc, Mr Tony Elumelu, were among the 82 Nigerians, who the Federal Government has approved their companies to move to the next stage of acquiring the 10 National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) plants. In a joint meeting, the National Council on Privatization (NCP) and the Board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited, (NDPHC) at its second meeting, approved the pre-qualification of 386 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) submitted by 82 of the 110 consortia that earlier expressed interest in the acquisition of 80 per cent equity in the 10 NIPP power plants jointly owned by the Federal, State and Local Governments. While Dangote expressed interest in three of his firms, namely, Dangote Industries Limited/Sewa West Africa Limited, Dangote Industries Limited/ESSAR and Dangote Industries Limited/Sogenal Limited, Elumelu used Transcorp – GE Consortium to seek for the firms. The 10 generation plants include, Gbarain Generation Company, Benin Generation Company, Omotosho Generation Company, Egbema Generation Company, Omoku Generation Company, Geregu Generation Company, Calabar Generation Company, Ogorode Generation Company, Alaoji Generation Company and Olorunsogo Generation Company.
